LUCAS LEADS ARGENTINA’S TURISMO CARRETERA, THE OLDEST ANNUALLY HELD RACING CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE WORLD.

After wheel to wheel action and some very tough track battles, Julian Santero won the the Concepción del Uruguay GP to become the series leader at this stage.

This is a fantastic achievement for the young driver making Lucas proud to maintain this important sponsorship in a market where our name has long been associated with quality automotive products.

After 5 completed races, the championship saw Julian accumulate the necessary championship points to take the top step on the podium and become the series leader.

From its early beginnings on highly dangerous dirt tracks and sometimes public roads, today, Turismo Carretera is currently considered a stock car series, in a way the Argentine equivalent of NASCAR, complete with double-file restarts and high speed banked turns, and even a playoff system.

Grids often feature 45 cars per event. Races consist of practice and qualifying, followed by a series of three short heats to determine starting grid.

The Final is a longer, more endurance based race, which is often between 100 to 120 km.  There is also an annual 1000 km endurance event held at Buenos Aires. The season runs from February, and ends in December.

Lucas, of course, will have its eye on the prize and be looking to win the series with Julian behind the wheel.
